You may or may not have known that The Lion King was recently re-released to theaters for a limited 3D engagement. I am personally not a huge fan of 3D, but I am a huge fan of Disney and The Lion King. Fortunately for Disney, the re-release of the film earned $80,000,000 at the box office. This is definitely not a bad performance for a movie that is almost 20 years old. Some may call it a quick cash grab, but others see it as an opportunity to relive a classic masterpiece in a way that they haven’t experienced before. Fortunately for those people, Disney sees it the same way.
Disney has announced that, due to the wild success of The Lion King re-release, they will put out four more of their masterpiece films in 3D over the next two years.
Beauty and the Beast: 1/13/2012
Finding Nemo: 9/14/2012
Monster’s Inc: 1/18/2013
The Little Mermaid: 9/13/2013
For me, this is awesome news. All four of these films are in my top ten favorite Disney flicks of all time and I am fantastically excited to see these in theaters again (The Little Mermaid for the first time). This, in addition to the 3D versions of the Star Wars films
coming to theaters beginning next year makes this a good time to be a fan of movies!
